Wake
County Schools
Wake County Schools are recognized for their academic excellence, and encompass
Raleigh, Cary and Garner. The Wake County School system focuses on the
individual talents and needs of students.
An innovative magnet school system allows students throughout the area to attend
those schools which best fit their abilities and academic needs. The magnets are
designed with the belief that all children possess special gifts and talents.
The international studies magnets develop an awareness of cultural differences
and similarities. A highly structured program in the basic skills of reading,
writing and mathematics is offered in the classical studies magnets. Several of
the elementary magnet schools offer extended day programs for children of
working parents.
Special programs are available for students who have physical and/or mental
challenges. Project Redirection, for students in grades 7-9, provides
individualized instruction and counseling for students who have difficulty
coping in a regular classroom. Optional high schools offer instruction to
potential dropouts and emphasize the mastery of skills to enter the work world.
